What is IFS?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a non-pathologizing and evidenced-based trauma-integration modality. The IFS protocol allows us to reprogram habituated stress responses that at one time ensured our survival, but have become barriers to connection. This process restores an internal experience of safety that can transform how we relate to ourselves, to others and to our place in the world. IFS is rooted in a theory of multiplicity and adaptation; the idea that our consciousness is composed of a family of parts that contribute to our internal ecosystem in a state of grace or from a place of protectiveness and survival.
Much of IFS is about building relationships with our most ardent protective parts so that they develop enough trust in us to soften and allow direct access to vulnerable parts holding shame, fear and false negative beliefs about unworthiness and unlovability. By following the IFS protocal, these burdens can be released, which restors vitality and balance to the internal world.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle energy healing practice that promotes physical relaxation. Reiki restores energetic connectivity to elicit the body’s innate healing response in support of physical and emotional wellbeing. Reiki and IFS work well together because survival-mode parts often intentionally and unintentionally impact the flow of energy throughout the body. Caring for energy centers and caring for parts is a reciprocally beneficial practice.
